Help me give my students a variety of books on a variety of reading levels for a variety of personalities.

My Students

Teaching a kindergarten class in the morning and another kindergarten class in the afternoon, I have quite a few students. Each one of these children is different. Each one has a different story. No two children are alike. Interestingly, they all have one thing in common: they want to read. One student in my morning class has severe speech language delays. His ability to hear and produce sounds in a word is extremely low; thus, he often becomes discouraged when he blends sounds to make words. Yet, as soon as I start reading a book to him, his eyes light up as he comprehends the story. Another student tells me every single day that he cannot read. Yet, every day when I sit with him and help him learn strategies to decode CVC words, he looks at me in awe as he reads a word.

When a student realizes the power he has to blend sounds together and create words, the energy in the room becomes magic.

Reading is magic! This new found ability is empowering for these kiddos. This is real magic that will put these children on a path to success.

My Project

Books have a way of appealing to all types of students in all walks of life. Undoubtedly the books that I'm requesting will fit all the personalities in my classroom. From the Berenstain Bears, to Nate the Great, and from Disney princesses to Little Critter, these characters are superheroes to my students who are just learning how to decode text. By providing these books, on easy reading levels, I am sharing the gift of adventure with these little kinders.

Reading is magic and magic is in books!

Helping these young readers catch the vision of what a good book can do, I hope to cultivate a desire to read and a desire to learn.
