Decodable Books Help Create Great Readers

Help me give my students take home decodable reading books that cover specific reading skills my students need to practice to become great readers.

Mrs. Olsen Kanesville Elementary School
West Haven, UT Grades PreK-2

My Students

My first graders are thirsty for knowledge and come every day ready to drink it in. They come from all social backgrounds, ethnicities, and abilities which makes them quite unique. We talk often about how being unique is our strength because we can all learn from each other. We are a classroom family. First graders are the first to wrap their arms around each other in an encouraging hug or to ask how they can help. We are encouragers, new readers with the world opening up to their imagination, mathematicians, and scientists. Together we are on a journey that will last a lifetime.

My Project

One of the hardest things about learning to read in 1st grade is all the skills that are needed. Decodable books focus on one reading skill at a time and provide many opportunities to practice those skills in authentic reading situations.

By having decodable readers that can be sent home with students, every child will have the opportunity to practice the skills they need, with on level text that they and their parents can find success with.

Often times parents struggle with choosing books that are a good fit for their children. This leads to parents and students feeling frustrated with the whole reading process. With decodable readers, the students and parents have more success. I am also able to send home books with the specific skills each child needs. Decodable readers build great readers one skill at a time.
