Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is an urban high school with about 1,000 students and it is a very diverse learning environment! My students encompass a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and ideas. My students love interacting with their peers, socializing and telling jokes. They are full of passion, energy, and excitement and take pride in their successes.
Many of my students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and deserve to have every opportunity they can to succeed.
They are excited to be a part of our school and I hope to help provide them with the skills they need in my class and beyond.
My Project
Freshman year is one of the most important years of school for students. For many students, it's a time where they begin to grow up and discover who they are as a person. Over the course of the year, I work together with the other freshmen teachers and a dedicated counselor to help these students navigate their freshmen year in order to set them up for success in high school and beyond.
The notecards and postage stamps I am requesting for this project will help me promote a growth mindset in my classroom.
With these resources, I would like to have my students write themselves letters where they reflect on who they currently are and what they would hope to accomplish by the end of their freshmen year. I would have the students address the envelopes to themselves and mail them out to my students toward the end of the year. My hope would be that my students could see how much they have grown throughout the year and help them look forward to the next year.
