Every day my thirty, amazing, first grade students gather on the carpet for whole group instruction. They are eager to learn and full of wonderful ideas. Together we create incredible projects and explore a variety of topics.
My students are creative and have a passion for learning new things.
Even though they may not always have the best supplies, they show such ingenuity with the limited materials they do have.
The kids in my class are 100% low income free breakfast and lunch and about 70% are English Language learners. They have the special challenge of mastering english alongside all of the other important topics.
Using project based learning provides amazing opportunities for collaboration and conversational skills as well as problem solving. I hope to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence by giving them the best educational experience possible.
This project is helping to create a new STEM learning lab/Makerspace at our school.
The addition of multiple, easy to use, robots will enable our youngest learners to begin using coding for real life applications and creative artistic expressions.
Dash Robots bring coding off of the screen and to life for our students. They can create different mazes, and constructions to guide their robots through.
Students will need to work collaboratively to complete different challenges. This will enhance their communication and problem solving skills in an extremely engaging way. These robots will also begin introducing our low income students to the 21st century skills that they will need to be fluent in to be college and career ready as they progress through their education!
