Dashing Through 1st With Dash

Help me give my students the opportunity to experience coding with robots. We have done many unplugged coding options, explored websites, and used small robots to enhance our learning. The Dash Robot will be used daily!

My Students

I am a lucky teacher of 16 first grade students who come to school eager to learn and experience new things with each other. We are a big classroom community who work together in everything that we do. We are a family.

I work at a Title I school in York, Pennsylvania.

Our school population is made up of more than 50% of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many students participate in our backpack program, where they take home a backpack filled with food every other weekend.

My first grade classroom is one of the inclusion classrooms and I love learning from them every day. These students come to school and work hard! Education is not a one size fits all. Despite the trauma and adversity many have faced, they continue to face each day with their love of learning. My goal as a teacher is to continue to foster the need of students and prepare students for their life long dream in the work field. All students learn in a different way and need to feel comfortable.

My Project

This year my classroom of first grade students have explored the world of coding. We have participated in many lessons that have unplugged coding activities and beginner robots. The excitement over coding is like none other from my kiddos.

Dash will be used daily as part of our STEM mornings and incorporated in our lessons.

Together students will learn how to code Dash to complete different challenges.

STEM education is important to my students and myself being able to teach with different digital devices like the robot help prepare them for their future in the world. Robots are part of our future!
