This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are special because they blossom with imagination. I work in an inner-city school system with students whose eyes light up when they are learning computer science. I teach students from grades K-5 instructional technology and computer science in an inner-city school with a high poverty rate.

Do you remember when you were younger and you would tinker with everything?

You may have built something in your basement or taken apart something because you were curious about what it did. I want to give that opportunity to my students. All students should have the opportunity to be the next innovator. You never know who is going to create the next new piece of technology. It could be a 10-year-old kid.

My Project

We are hoping to get a Dash robot to work with students in grades K-5. It is an engaging robot that will help engage, extend, and enhance all of their other subjects while teaching computer science. In Kindergarten, they will practice reading and following instructions with the Dash. When they get older they will use block-based coding to create an algorithm that will program Dash to help them with multiplication and geometry. There are so many amazing lessons that the students can do with these devices. The Dash robot will be integrated into many grade levels for various projects. This will truly aid in the development of the students' coding, programming, and engineering skills while being integrated into all contents.
