Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located a few miles from the California-Mexico border with 100% of our students receiving free and reduced-price lunch. We are a class of first and second-grade students who are anxious and happy to learn. With the curriculum becoming more rigorous, especially in reading and math, we want to be able to experience the learning firsthand and be focused. Our class is an active bunch of students who are highly engaged and ready to dive into learning.

My Project

Our classroom absolutely loves STEM education. My students are most engaged when they are actively learning and Dash will provide my students the ability to do just that!

These Dash robots will be beneficial to my students because Dash provides early readers the chance to practice coding.

Also, I have so many students who are still at the early stages of reading. Dash provides equitable experiences for those students to access coding even as emergent readers.

These Dash robots will help prepare students for future careers as they practice these 21st century skills. Students will use their critical thinking to solve problems and create opportunities to code their robot to have it perform different manevuers. By practicing at a young age, students will have experience with kid-friendly coding and feel comfortable building on their coding experience as they get older.

Dash also provides activities to integrate other curriculum alongside the coding that students are learning from Dash. These activities are provided through the Dash website and allow for teachers to find ways and teach lessons that connect the curriculum to STEM education.

These Dash robots will provide my students with the chance to explore their early interests in coding and robotics and further their interests in the STEM field.
