My Students
Our school serves students in grades K-5. My students live in a rural area and many come from economically disadvantaged homes. Often my students' parents are not able to help them achieve their educational goals.
My students are sweet enthusiastic learners, who face many obstacles to their academic success.
Our students have access to iPads, and computers, but need rigorous activities to use these tools to develop their leadership skills, and college and career ready skills. Students are capable of playing games on their devices, but we want them to be able to utilize the devices as a tool to develop higher order thinking skills and real world applications.
My Project
How amazing would it be to go to a job interview and share that you started coding robots in 4th grade? Dash is a durable, kid friendly robot that can sense and react to the environment around it.
Having a Dash Robot for my classroom will give students an opportunity to develop coding and robotics skills.
Using applications on student iPads, children can control Dash programing him to move around the room.
Using the robot will strengthen their understanding of geometry and measurement. Students will use the robots to travel through paths by estimating angles for turns and lengths for straight movement. Students can create paths for Dash to follow using specific angle types and lengths.
Students can also use Dash to practice other skills within the classroom in ELA, math, science and Social Studies. Students will test their plans and make revisions. This will help students to develop perseverance and critical thinking.
Dash will be an engaging way to encourage students to think analytically, synthesize knowledge, and develop technology skills and confidence.
