I teach 2nd grade in Eastern North Carolina. My students are a sweet group of very active kids. They enjoy hands on activities and collaborating with each other. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and living situations. Many of our students are currently recovering from the effects of Hurricane Florence. Students are facing unique challenges of being displaced from home, missing supplies, and adjusting to the after effects of a disaster. Fifty percent of my students were considered low income before the storm. My school has struggled to make achievement goals for the past several years. Our students are often below the expected level in both reading and math. They need hands on activities to engage them in learning activities.
