My third grade students were so excited to hear our robots had been funded. They couldn't wait for them to arrive, but to our surprise our brand new robots are not compatible with our older iPads. Talk about seeing some heart-broken kids!
Our Title 1 school is located in a military town.
Many of our students' parents have served or are serving in the armed forces. Our school community attempts to help their children the best they can, but often have to work to make ends meet or one parent is serving over seas. As a 3rd grade teacher, I feel it is my obligation to provide students with real world experiences they would not get at home and every opportunity to learn.
My Project
Students will use the two requested Kindle Fires to continue their exploration in STEM experiences. They will be using the Kindles to control our newly funded Dash and Dot robots. My students have shown a great interest in coding and I want them develop and apply their skills with robotics. I want to add one more Dash to the robots we currently have and a launcher accessory.
Getting these Kindles will help my students gain experiences and find new interests in robotics and computer programming.
They will gain problem solving skills, by using the Dash robot and his accessories, that will be applied to their everyday life. Not to mention we will finally get to use our robots and won't have to wait to borrow teachers' iPads!
