This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are unique, motivated, creative, inspired and eager to learn. Third graders joining my Coding Club during their lunch time are excited to code. My school is fortunate to be a 1:1 iPad school but now we are pushing the boundaries and reaching higher. Many of these students struggle with reading but coding allows them to learn a new language. I have also started a Girls Who Code club that meets once a week made up of 3rd and 4th graders.
These students come from diverse backgrounds and low income households but still deserve the opportunity to be creative and be exposed to a world of possibilities.
My Project
Students will be using these various coding robots during Coding Club which happens during lunch time. During this time, students use various coding robots, learn new vocabulary, learn problem solving and work with others. Each week they will be given a new assignment dealing with the robots or challenges to create with the robots. For example, students will create a way to get from one side of the room to the other following a maze with the spheros- students will need to code the robot.
Coding Club with third graders- they will be learning various aspects of coding all while having fun.
