Located in a very impoverished community, our middle school serves around 740 middle school students yearly. With multiple feeder schools, our school tries our best to ignite a sense of pride and school spirit within our student body. Extremely limited funding for school events and new curriculum implementation create barriers when the counseling team plans for the year. With everything our students have to worry about at home, I want to provide a safe, comfortable, exciting environment in which my students can grow and mature as productive citizens and friends.
My goal is to help create an environment that fosters healthy relationships and lasting connections through lively, TRANSFORMED education.
As a counselor, my hope is to shine a light on incredible opportunities and help dream up the most amazing futures for my students. For 40 hours a week, we have the lives of hundreds of students in our building. One student at a time, we can change the culture of our building.
My Project
This training would be a dream come true. The knowledge and tools learned during this training would provide me with the opportunity to change the way my students view school. If my students could start engaging in education and wanting to come to school, the dropout rate would decrease and the career success rate would increase.
My students can be the ones to end the vicious cycle of poverty in my community.
In addition to the classroom observations and experiences with the RCA staff and students, educators will also attend several workshops that include topics such as strategies for effective classroom discipline, integrating music into the classroom, increasing student engagement through higher order questioning, teaching creatively while achieving high standardized tests, implementing games that promote student engagement, promoting academic rigor while meeting the needs of all learners, and creating a climate and culture that promotes student success. I can't wait to learn how I can be a more effective DIFFERENCE MAKER at my school!
