Dance Liberation and Communication

Help me give my students exposure to different dance genres as they express themselves through movement. The art form will be an outlet for children who may not know how to put words to how they are feeling.

My Project

I volunteer teaching dance after school. For most of my students, who face trauma on a regular basis in their environment. Dance has been a safe haven, a form of therapeutic reprieve. Students with behavioral discrepancies learn how to manage their emotions with disciplines spawned in dance. Dance creates a place of safety and a since of accomplishment for our students. Our children dance well, and have been asked to dance at major community events, like parades, church services, Black History programs, and other schools. But they have yet to be exposed to multiple dance forms. This project will allow them to explore different forms of dance through artifacts encompassing dance.
