My students need a dance residency program to integrate curriculum in a meaningful way that will engage the body and mind in learning.

My Students

These students come from a great neighborhood. Some families have parents going to the local university. Some families are new to our country. Some families have been here for generations. It's a great mix and everybody does their homework every night.

It's fun to work with motivated students who have such a great support system.

They are eager to learn and they work hard. Second grade is the magical age where they still adore school but they are old enough to do many things on their own.

My Project

This will pay for an expert to come from the Tanner Dance Company. He/she will work weekly with the students to incorporate dance into learning science, math, and language arts. This is a way that makes learning fun and involves kinesthetic learning. Sometimes there is a pianist and sometimes a drum accompanies the students.

Students have danced the planet rotation, multiplication tables, fractions, the moon's pull on ocean tides, and many stories.

They get to dance how different rocks are formed. We also invite other classes to dance and come learn with us. We perform for parents and other students at the end of the year.
