We turn down the lights, students get out their papers and pencils; we turn on some soft music, and the class illuminates their ducks. There are always some \"oooh's\" as the soft light casts a warm glow on their page. Students lean in and begin to write. Thank you for helping my students create positive, comfortable memories around the writing process. \r\n\r\nWe had our first button party! Each student made a tiny button representing themselves. This was a quick thing that had amazing results. The class immediately started brainstorming other buttons they could make, to whom they could gift buttons, and ideas for designing a \"school\" button. What a quick way to bring some joy and creativity into our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1756141929024,"projectUrl":"project/atmosphere-is-everything/9581043/","projectTitle":"Atmosphere is Everything","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Henderson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp745310_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1480527221912","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/745310"},{"teacherId":745310,"projectId":9229069,"letterContent":"The books I purchased with this project added fresh life to my classroom and my bookshelves. They picked up books and thumbed through them; many students wandered away and started reading. \r\n\r\nBy the end of the school year, sixth graders sometimes take on the \"tough\" persona of a middle schooler. Because of your support, our weekly Morning Mindfulness Group is now a reality, and the involvement has been incredible. \r\n\r\nWith the resources from your support, Indian Hills Students are engaging in hands-on mindfulness practices that are helping them develop emotional awareness, focus, and resilience. To this date, your students have learned a mindful breath and a belly breath, multiple mindful grounding techniques and participated in discussions on how mindfulness is a superpower.\r\n\r\nOne particularly powerful moment was during an indoor line-up morning. Students learned the mindful grounding technique \"Find a Rainbow\". Despite the gym being full of distracting science projects and sounds of students greeting their friends in their lines, students participating in this activity were able to practice focusing on what they wanted to focus on--finding specific colors, in a fun and hands-on way--a skill that can positively translate to a number of situations.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue learning practical mindfulness skills that can be used in your students' everyday daily routines. Your generosity is fostering lasting skills that will serve them well beyond this school year.
