This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The materials I am requesting will foster a supportive, welcoming and collaborative learning environment in many ways. Their desk name plates and holders will not only identify their space in the classroom, they will also serve as a visual aid in supporting much of their classwork and tasks and serve as a means to establish them as a valued, recognized member of our classroom community. The sleeve holders also make monthly team seating arrangement changes easy to provide the opportunity for my class to collaborate with differing combinations of peers through out the year, building life skills such as discovering what it means to work effectively in a diverse community. The pencil boxes, dividers and binders will provide a system necessary to keep their learning materials (note-catchers, visual anchor charts, etc.) organized and handy on any given day. This will also help them establish routines to become more responsible for the materials they commonly use and will teach them how to best keep track of their personal property.
The smaller materials- like expo markers, ballpoint pens and scissors- are materials that will be utilized in daily lessons and student led tasks as a part of our curriculum.
These items will allow students to demonstrate their understanding through checks for understanding to guide in the moment instructional moves and decisions in the classroom. Students will also use these materials to engage in problem set tasks, reading and writing tasks and to provide their partners with productive feedback in their written work to support meaningful revisions and edits to drafted summaries and essays. The document holders create a space where each student has a space to show off their finalized work on our hallway bulletin board. These materials truly support the daily functions of our classroom community throughout the entire school year.
