My Students

Currently, I teach 5th grade in a predominately African American school in Baltimore City with a great number of students who come from low-income households. The school is located in an urban neighborhood which services students who live in the community.

No one could have predicted that a year ago our lives would be so changed and that school as we knew it would be so disrupted.

In February, my motivated, energetic and creative 5th graders and parents were given the opportunity decide whether or not to return back to school to conclude their last year in an environment that they love and they have been so familiar with before the COVID-19 pandemic. As an 19 year educator and working from home, I had to make the hardest decision I ever had to make in my career and that was to return to school and complete the 2020-2021 school year. My district and the state decided that it was safe for teachers and students to return back into their school buildings if they follow the necessary safety precautions as mandated by state and CDC and if they received vaccinations.

My Project

This powerful disinfecting tool will allow me to keep my learning environment safe and sanitary on a daily basis by covering surfaces quicker and more evenly. My students and I will have peace of mind knowing that I am taking extra precautions in sanitizing our classroom during the remaining days of our school year. I will also feel at ease knowing that I have done everything in my power to keep myself and students free from COVID-19 issues. My goal is to make sure that my classroom receives negative COVID results on a daily and weekly basis.
