The students in our school are very diverse in many ways. We have students in our school who read and achieve way above grade level, and we have students that need all the supports they can to be successful. They are creative, thoughtful, and most of all innovative. No matter what their achievement level, they all love to participate in authentic projects, engaging challenges, and anything that is hands-on. They work hard to think outside the box to find solutions to problems. We have a large coding club, and contemporary technology is at the forefront of all student interest.
When I work with students and get contemporary technology in their hands, I find they all say they wish that all of their classes were this engaging.
My Project
The materials I'm requesting will enhance the innovative projects my students are creating in the school's Design Den (makerspace). They want to use the vinyl cutter to create paper engineering projects, paper prototypes, and scale models of buildings. Our students need 50 hours of Design each school year, and this will be another tool they can use in Design.
They are asking for a Shilhoutte vinyl cutter and a heat press to work on prototyping and project decorations.
They also want to create custom apparel and stickers for the Makerspace.
We also have a school Design Den (makerspace area) and we do not have a vinyl cutter in the space.
