This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We just started this year with new instruments and equipment thanks to generous donations and grants, and it has been such a great time! My students have been loving playing ukulele, guitar, and keyboard and I am looking into expanding our instrumental program into a modern band program so that students can put everything together and experience playing in a band.

As we are slowly building our inventory of instruments and equipment in preparation for starting the new program, there are some things that we would love to have for our classroom in general to help our class run more efficiently and for our upcoming winter concert .

Capos for the guitarists will help them to be able to more easily play songs in difficult keys by allowing them to transpose to easier keys to play in. Modern Band curriculum books will provide students with visuals, backing tracks, and other instructional aids to help them learn songs more efficiently. Brushes for our drumset and a sleigh bell are for the songs students chose for our winter concert that require them (and will be useful to have on hand for future songs). Rechargeable batteries will be more cost effective and sustainable in the long run for our battery-operated keyboards.
