My students need new, exciting, and relevant low level material to read both in the classroom and at home. We are asking for 10 subscriptions to Scholastic News and 10 subscriptions to TIME For Kids.

My Students

I service a diverse group of special education students in grades K-2. A majority of my students come from single parent homes below the poverty level. We are a Title I school and more than 56% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Our special education students have various disabilities and are serviced through both a pull-out (resource) and push-in (inclusion) model.

A majority of the students have a specific learning disability in one of the three core academic subjects (reading, written expression, mathematics).

My Project

My K-2 students with special needs are in need of non-fiction expository type text to practice reading and comprehension kills. Exciting current events, presented in an exciting magazine formate will not only help students practice decoding skills but will keep them engaged and learning current real world content.

Students will look forward to the weekly arrival of Scholastic News and TIME For Kids magazines containing current events.

Not only will the materials be used in the classroom but the students will love the fact that they can take home copies to practice and share with their parents.

I'm excited about adding a resource that students will be able to use to practice decoding skills, learn about the world around them, and build vocabulary.
