My Students

I am fortunate and blessed to be the teacher of the gifted and talented. We are a group of 76 that are diverse in personality as well as ability. When people think about gifted children, they often get the idea of a perfect student. Well, although they are my "perfect students", they may not seem that way to others. Gifted students are strong willed and always questioning. They have deep emotions and often have a hard time coping with those emotions. I also have students who are twice exceptional, which means they are struggling with learning disabilities. We are in a rural school district and many of our children are on free lunch systems.

My Project

Our gifted students are home now prospectively for the rest of the school year. Teachers in our school have been working to keep the students' regular education curriculum on track for the grade level. My gifted kids need information. They seek to know current events. I have sent letters in the mail encouraging projects which include thinking skills, creativity, information literacy and affective skills. The TIME for KIDS Magazines incorporate Language arts, science, history, and current information. I know that the non fiction and current events in TIME for KIDS magazine will help them get through this strange time that we find ourselves in now.
