Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a brand new librarian at an amazing Title I school in Pasadena, Texas. My students are just the best! They are sweet, thoughtful, and kind. My students come from diverse backgrounds and they learn from each other every day. The educational needs vary with each student. Some are reading well above grade level, while others are diligently working on mastering concepts of print. Despite their differences, I am working to create an environment in our library that encourages students to support each other and celebrates individual victories.

Above all, my students are resilient.

they work hard and are excited to learn. Many of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and inconsistent family situations. I want the library to be a place where students not only feel safe, but feel loved and accepted. Words cannot express the joy this new librarian feels when a student stops me in the hall to talk about a book, or asks for recommendations, or even gives a recommendation to a friend. Basically, I love seeing my students excited about reading!

My Project

These materials will help me create a warm and inviting environment for my students. I believe that the library is the heart of the school and I want so badly for the aesthetic to match the feeling. So much of my students days are scheduled and regimented; I want the library to be a place where every student can relax and just enjoy reading. The rug I am requesting will fit just perfect in the front corner of the library; I just know that this new reading area will be a student favorite!
