My Students

My second grade students are the definition of strong! Many are newly arrived in the country and all are English Language Learners. Our school is a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Learning to read in a second language is challenging, which is why I try to promote a love of reading every day!

Who better to ask about the needs of the students than the students themselves! When I spoke with my students about how we can improve our independent reading experience, they suggested creating a more comfortable reading environment with comfy pillows.

My Project

Anyone who loves reading - as I do! - understands the importance of being comfortable. I want to foster an enjoyable reading experience for my students who already struggle with learning to read in a second language.

I can relate to finding a comfortable place to curl up with a good book, which is why we need comfy cushions in our classroom to nurture a love of reading!
