My Project

My second-grade students are developing a love of reading, and having a comfortable, inviting space to enjoy books can make a lasting impact on their learning. Many of my students benefit from opportunities to read independently in a calm environment where they can focus, relax, and immerse themselves in a good story.

This project will help create a cozy classroom reading nook with a rug, futon, bean bag chairs, book bins, and high-interest books.

These materials will transform an unused corner of our classroom into a welcoming literacy space where students can read independently, participate in small-group instruction, and explore books that spark their curiosity.

The rug, futon, and bean bag chairs will provide comfortable seating options that encourage students to spend more time reading. Book bins will help organize our classroom library so students can easily find books that match their interests and reading levels. New books will expand our collection and provide engaging texts that support literacy growth and foster a lifelong love of reading.

Research shows that students who enjoy reading are more likely to become strong readers. By creating a dedicated reading space, students will have opportunities to build fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence while developing positive reading habits.

For many children, the classroom is where they discover the joy of reading. This project will provide a safe, comfortable environment that inspires students to pick up a book, explore new ideas, and grow as readers every day.
