My students read, read, read! Even students who start the year saying they really aren't too sure about reading end up as readers! Students love to look through our classroom library to find interesting books to read!
My third grade students are not only learning two languages, but also learning in two languages.
Students have literacy and math in Spanish for half the day, and also have literacy and math in English for the other half the day. Students have me for the English half of the day, and a wonderful teacher from Costa Rica for the other half of the dayI
Our school has a theme of Global Learning, and we are proud to be global learners!
My Project
How do you remember learning math? Was it just sitting at your desk, listening to your teacher, completing worksheets, and lots of memorization?
Do you think seeing pictures and reading a story could have helped you learn math skills better?
I have seen my students' faces when reading a picture book. I have also seen my students' faces when introducing a new math concept ...
Place Value is such an important concept, so that will be a great book for students. Telling time and determining elapsed time can be a difficult topic to introduce and practice, so that would be a great book to help students. Our scores have not been as high as we want them in the Geometry area, so using literature to introduce, practice, and review those topics would be a great help!
Since one of my goals is to stretch student thinking and make it an enjoyable process, I thought about using pictures books to help make math come alive for my students! And I need your help!
