My students need center materials to foster their interest in STEM as well as help them develop problem solving/critical thinking skills, collaboration, communication and creativity.

Students in my class come from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. These students each bring unique talents, ideas, and experiences. Becoming lifelong learners excited about education is so very important. As Horace Mann famously said, education is the great equalizer.

Kindergarteners come each day ready to learn explore and create. It is such a privilege as their teacher to foster this love for learning. In my class we say we are a family. It is a brain stretching, mistake making place where everyone matters. Each year I strive to create many opportunities to practice hands on learning that focuses on problem solving and collaboration. These moments are when I see my students the happiest and most engaged in owning their learning.

My Project

The Design and Build Engineering Centers, Blocks and Blueprint Center, Learn to Code File folder Games, Building Brick STEM Challenge Kit, Marble Run Kit, and Pattern Block Cards will be integrated into small group centers.

This will provide various opportunities for students to engage in STEM learning. One of the biggest goal in Kindergarten is to create an environment where student love to learn and these materials will help to do that. Learning through trial and error is so important for learners especially in kindergarten. By providing opportunities within the classroom for students that are inquiry based and open ended students are able to all find a way to contribute, learn and grow. Watching students engage in these opportunities is exciting and mutually rewarding.

These materials will help students in my class develop skills to support them through their school years and into their professional careers and personal lives. Materials will be used during small group centers to help foster skills known as the 4's. These skills have been identified as the most important skills required for 21st century education: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. These centers will create authentic opportunities to practice these skills as well as excite students about STEM.
