Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are identified as English Learners, which means their families come from countries all over the world and they're learning English for the first time.

Most of my students come from the Pacific Islands, countries like Marshall Islands, Chuuk, the Phillipines, Pohnpei, Tonga, Samoa, and many more.

My students are not only learning the general education provided by the state but they're doing so in a second language. They work hard and they are eager to learn.

I hope to ensure that the EL students of my school are given the same opportunities to thrive as their Native English speaking peers.

My Project

Students who identify as English Learners, EL, in our school mostly originate from Polynesian, Micronesian, and South East Asian countries. Culturally, these communities value the land in a physical and spiritual way.

I am requesting gardening gloves and tools.

We want to tie our students' cultural values of taking care of the land to the classroom and school setting. Our school started a garden and we are encouraging the kindergarten class to be involved by not only planting but tending to the garden weekly. Products from this order will ensure the safety and productivity of our student's efforts.
