Help me give my students an organized and beautiful culturally responsive book library to help them see and value all aspects of THEM, including their language and culture.
Our second graders are an amazing group of sweet, compassionate, hard-working, and resilient kids! COVID-19 has been tough, but they continue to persevere and achieve high levels of academic success.
Due to their love for learning and inquisitive personalities, our students become better readers, writers, scientists, and tiny human beings every day!
They come from a variety of backgrounds and contribute proudly and meaningfully to our school's and classroom cultures.
My Project
We have been given the opportunity to build our very own culturally responsive classroom library. To increase student engagement in school, we must show our students that we see and value all aspects of them, including their language and culture. It is our hope that by putting books in front of children in which their cultures or cultures of other students are represented, we can positively impact a student’s acceptance of their own race and others’ races. These culturally responsive texts are a start to an initiative that we will continue to expand.
We need a great way to store the culturally responsive texts we have acquired n our classroom and these carts will house all the books we have ordered.
