My Project

As a kindergarten teacher in a culturally diverse community, approximately one third to one half of my students are multilingual, many being native Spanish speakers who enter school with little to no English and learn as we go! I am currently working towards ESOL certification to better serve my school community. As part of this process, I have recognized a huge gap in the materials we have in the classroom to support our multilingual learners. We need bilingual books for our multilingual learners!

Research shows that bilingual books are crucial for supporting multilingual students by promoting inclusivity, accelerating English language acquisition, and enhancing literacy skills in both languages.

The books I have selected for this project will provide cultural connections, aid in developing reading comprehension skills, increase English vocabulary, promote social-emotional wellness, and more—simply by creating connections between words that are already known and words that are being learned.

Equity in education is one of my greatest passions. Thank you for supporting us in creating more equitable learning opportunities for all of the students we serve.
