Cultivating Horticulturists at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum
My students need a field trip to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum to have an opportunity to get their hands dirty with plants and their environment. They also need informational books.

My Students
My students have come from many different parts of the world, including Ecuador, Mexico, Somalia, Kenya, and the United States. They come with tenacity, creativity, and a wide variety of experiences and gifts.
At our school, 92% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and 95% are students of color.
The majority of my students are learning English as a second or third language. Our school serves students in grades K-8 and provides engaging academics through the arts, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. They are students with the capacity to achieve greatness.
My Project
My students are urban dwellers--they live and go to school in an environment surrounded by concrete. We have a wonderful playground, rain garden, and lovely windows--however, my students need to experience nature up close and personal. They will truly benefit from a trip to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
We are scientists, writers, artists and stewards of the Earth.
On this trip, we will meet researchers whose job it is to discover and characterize plants from different habitats around the world. We will learn about three different habitats: Deserts, Tropical Rainforest and Bog. We will also be doing hands-on experiments with plants and dirt. This is going to be an amazing experience!
