This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in one of the most impacted cities for COVID-19 in our county. Most of our students come from low-income households and have both parents working in essential jobs that require interfacing with people in the public. Consequently, many students stay at home with older siblings, grandparents, or babysitters that often don’t have the tools or experience necessary to provide the support and guidance students need to navigate distance learning. Despite the hardships our students face with their school being closed, they are high-spirited, caring, curious, and motivated to learn.

My Project

The watercolors and watercolor paper pad will promote the daily use of art in the virtual classroom. These simple art tools are an essential vehicle in cultivating creativity, self-expression, and communication skills key to child development. Additionally, they also support fine motor skills and help increase focus. Providing students with these art supplies means that you are improving their learning conditions. By giving our students these fun art materials, you are advancing the development of necessary foundational skills such as innovation and collaboration that will help across many content areas including reading, writing, technology and beyond.
