CSI Investigations Begin!

Help me give my students this "Murder at Old Fields" kit with many types of forensic investigations (blood, fiber, footprints, hair) so they might learn how to become crime scene investigators using a new lab space.

This project expired on May 18, 2022.

My Students

My students come from area high schools to develop technical skills and love hands-on learning opportunities. I am hoping to offer an enriched curriculum by teaching more forensic science concepts in an underutilized/ new lab. Offering additional lab experiences will allow for more hands-on learning between an existing biotechnology lab and a "new" forensic lab. This will provide additional ways students can try out careers in a lab setting and do so with adequate distance provided between students to minimize COVID spread.

My Project

My students need to carry on with learning in spite of COVID; These materials/ supplies provided by the "Murder at the Oil Fields Kit" will allow hands-on opportunities to learn criminal investigation methods (blood, hair, fingerprint, footprint analysis etc.). When using this kit, we will take advantage of a second lab space that allows students to spread out between two labs minimizing close interaction between students. The best way I know how to support students' social and emotional health is by providing students with interactive and growth-promoting experiences. Students will spread out between two labs to work as safely as possible. They will appreciate these new learning opportunities provided, feel a bit of normalcy in their daily education, and become informed on newly introduced CSI techniques.
