My students need the Circuit Discovery, Geodes, National Geographic Reader, & Magnetic Match Ring to enhance our science time. The reusable dry erase pockets will enrich math stations, while the Storage Drawer will hold math manipulatives.
Energetic, inquisitive, passionate, and ambitions; theses are the adjectives that come to mind when I think about my amazing group of 2nd graders. Although they all come from uniquely different walks of life, they each share an adventurous spirit that is alive and well within our classroom community. Their eagerness to explore and conquer the unknown is an inspiration and keeps me craving more classroom time each year.
Although it is my job to teach them, they end up teaching me.
These children are a constant reminder that it is ok to take chances and make mistakes. They are a constant reminder that growth can occur even when you're "wrong". We are on an incredible learning journey together.
My Project
I love for my teaching to be cross-curricular! The Circuit Discovery Kit, geodes, and National Geographic book will help me promote science during reading and writing time. I plan to do stem experiments with the circuit kit and magnetic math rings. Students will write about the scientific process as they use the items. What worked? What failed? How did you adapt and adjust? The geodes will allow students to explore the outside world in our classroom. Breaking geodes is something I've done with past classes, and they absolutely love it! We wear safety goggles, gloves, and use magnifying glasses, rulers, and balances to explore the geodes. This is a great way to integrate math and science.
I'm anxious to get my student's thinking outside of our 4 classroom walls!
These items will allow them to build real world connections, explore the unknown, and stay engaged through a cross-curricular experience. I like that these items will provide a multitude of experiences that some student's otherwise would not have been exposed to.
The art supplies will be useful for making holiday crafts for the student's parents. We will use the paint pens, mini canvases, and tickets to create unique keepsakes. The desk plates will be a nice resource for students to refer to during their independent work. They will also create a mini print rich environment within the student's personal space. I plan on utilizing the storage drawers to organize math manipulatives. I love how the drawers are clean so students can easily see and access the items they need to be efficient with math computations, problem solving and reasoning.
