This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
We have been making crochet worry worms that bring joy to the recipient and promotes hope and understanding through soft plush therapy. Students are learning to be compassionate and to empathize what others are going through in a nonjudgmental way. To see the perspective of others, they learn to value the feelings and emotions being experienced. They learn to see the world through the eyes of another person. Developing these skills to alleviate suffering by providing a gift that encourages hope and understanding which has a positive impact on the giver and the recipient.
Success can be measured by the depth and complexity of our conversations and the willingness to work on a project that is given to someone in need.
These opportunities foster the ability to be compassionate and develop these skills. Students enjoy crochet and this opportunity gives them a tool for lifelong coping skills that encourages compassion for themselves as well as others. Students are interested in amigurumi and these Woobles are perfect! "The Woobles Beginners Crochet Kit" comes with everything they need to complete the projects. Students should be able to create their own amigurumi, without the aid of a kit after using these kits. We are fostering an inclusive environment over yarn and learning to be compassionate towards others. These crochet projects will be given to others and will also include handwritten poems that offer encouragement and demonstrate compassion for others.
