My Students
The school I teach at is located in Janesville, Wisconsin, in a lower income part of the city. My classroom is a diverse environment with students coming from varying family backgrounds. Each morning my students come excited for the day and ready to participate in each lesson. We start the day with breakfast, where there is an endless stream of exciting news to share. Even as the day continues, there is never a moment where my students are not squirming to share some news. I want that excitement to continue each day. My goal is to do that by presenting engaging lessons and creating a positive and engaging environment.
My Project
The rug I have in my classroom right now is an old carpet that was pulled from a basement. The sides are shredding, which becomes a distraction for some of my students because they want to pull on them. It also has holes throughout the carpet. This new carpet will not only add fun color to my classroom, but it will also be a clean and exciting place to meet for whole group. The carpet spots will provide the students with specific spots to sit. This will help them control their bodies in their own spot. When they are not distracted with the shredding carpet and moving around the room, their attention will be on the instruction happening in front of them. The stools included will be used as a reward for those who sit respectfully on the carpet.
