Criss Cross Apple...What?

Step one: 'Everybody needs to have a seat!' Step two: Making sure that all of the little, active students stay in their seat! Due to the nature of my job as a speech-language pathologist, there is a special education focus with my students. I work as part of the special education team to ensure that our students have as much unfettered access to the curriculum presented in class as possible. I have the privilege of working with preschool to fourth grade students with speech-language needs from a high-need community to better gain access to classroom curriculum. In both my room, 'the Communication Station' and their classroom, we work on how we take in language by understanding and responding to it as well as how we use language to express our thoughts, ideas, wants and needs.

A majority of my students have incredibly high levels of activity requiring a need for continuous movement and sensory input. While the energy serves them well at P.E and recess, it hinders them from being able to focus during instruction and proves to be a large distraction for others around them. When the energy level distracts other students in the class, my student may need to be removed from the whole group.

The trick is having something for them at their seat that can provide this constant motion without requiring their attention. A Movin' Sit cushion does just that! Students are able to sit at the rug or at their desk with these inflatable cushions that simulate sitting on an exercise ball. Students are then able to be in motion without having something in their hands to distract them or doing extraneous movements in their seats that distract others. The Movin' Sit cushions allow students to not only remain in their seat during instruction, but also be more attentive and focused during the lesson.

By providing my students with Movin' Sit cushions, you make it possible for them to spend more time part of the whole group while increasing their access and attention to classroom instruction!
