Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

All of the students in our High School Autism program want to be like their peers and get a job and make money. This can be difficult in traditional settings based on sensory needs, noises, time, etc. I love my students, their creativity, ability to learn new skills, and they are all employable.

What is employability?

Being hired to work in a specific setting, such as a grocery store. But that's not the only option. Let's think out of the box and fit jobs to our students. This can be finding/making jobs that we can work from home and selling products online or being vendors at craft shows. My students have been practicing these skills using a borrowed Cricut explore 2 for 2 years. All the students can complete the process from start to finish. Creating, printing, weeding, and applying to product, and even ironing. Now it's time to set up the business full time and let the students create and make products independently.

The Hawkline, our business, will be using these needed materials and tools to improve the students' social skills, money skills, creativity, ability to follow steps, and be employable. The students with autism will sell the products in the school store to the general education population weekly.
