My Students

My students are cute, smart and eager to learn. They are all 4 to 5 years old and are preparing themselves for success in Kindergarten. My students are from low-income families in Akron, Ohio. I have 18 students in the morning and 18 students in the afternoon.

Incorporating engaging themes and topics into the areas of science, math and literacy is a productive way to help little ones master these important life-long skills.

My school has provided us with a fantastic curriculum. Part of this curriculum helps teachers guide student learning through the study of "insects".

The curriculum helps us learn academic and social-emotional skills through the wide topic of insects and they also provide us with living caterpillars. I would like to acquire developmentally appropriate materials to help really dive deep into this study and curriculum. Students love to learn with hands-on materials. These materials will help them learn while they think they are just "playing". How fun is that?

My Project

Each spring our district supplies our classroom with living caterpillars. We observe these beautiful creatures and watch them morph into beautiful butterflies.

Students learn best when engulfed in a topic of interest.

For approximately, seven weeks our classroom studies insects. We dig deep into this topic while incorporating science, math and literacy into our learning. The children absolutely LOVE this study each and every year. These materials will help me plan and incorporate small group and whole group learning opportunities for years to come. Therefore, reaching students year after year.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
