Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The school my students attend is located in an area that encounters many challenges within its little community. There are no sidewalks in this area of town. Many of the my students English Language learners and are being raised in homes that struggle to make ends meet. My students all receive free or reduced lunch.
My students are extremely energetic and eager to learn, but they are in need of love, positive reinforcement, and basic essential needs.
For some students, school is the only place where they receive the love and attention they need. I try to provide them with positive experiences that are within my control during the school day. I hope that by doing so, my students will feel inspired to continue to succeed in school.
My Project
My students have a creative imagination. In Kindergarten, students use art to develop their fine motor skills and creativity. My students use a lot of tempera paint and paintbrushes to help them strengthen their ability to stay within the lines and use their imagination to paint. Students tend to use the paint placed on paper plates. This becomes a contributing factor of paint being overused. If my students were able to get the no spill paint cups, this would help preserve and conserve the amount of paint being used.
Often times, school is the only place students have access to art supplies.
Since my students come from a low-socioeconomic background, it is important to expose students to art while integrating academics. In Kindergarten, students need to learn letter formation and high frequency words. The Crayola Pan Set Washable Watercolors will help students practice the letter formation or high frequency words. To give students more practice, the use of Elmer's liquid glue and glitter gold will provide a sensory twist. Students will be able to touch each letter to learn the formation.
