Creativity Through STEM Manipulatives

Help me give my students with special needs some STEM building toys such as Chichalk Clip Connects, Educational Disks, Magnetic Blocks and other manipulatives to help them build their independence, imagination and creativity.

My Project

Independent STEM activities can make a meaningful impact on elementary special education students by providing hands-on, engaging experiences that support their individual learning needs. These activities will allow my students to explore science, technology, engineering, and math concepts in a way that is concrete and accessible, helping them better understand abstract ideas through play, experimentation, and discovery. Working independently on STEM tasks encourages the development of problem-solving skills, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment, all while reinforcing fine motor, communication, and social-emotional skills. Because these activities can be easily adapted, they meet my students at their developmental level, making learning more personalized, inclusive, and effective for all ranges of abilities.

My students will engage in open-ended play-based activities and demonstrate original ideas or combinations of materials during each activity.

My students will engage in cooperative play or conversation with a peer, using appropriate greetings, sharing, or turn-taking during play.

What makes my special education students special is their unique combination of strengths, perspectives, and resilience. Many of my students face challenges—whether cognitive, emotional, behavioral, or physical—that require them to approach learning differently. But in doing so, they often develop qualities that set them apart in powerful ways, such as: adaptability, persistence, creativity empathy and individual growth. My students are also special because they help foster inclusive classrooms, teaching others about diversity, patience, and acceptance.
