My Project

I am a reading teacher for grades Kindergarten-5th grade at a Title I school in NC. My students are a diverse group who speak a variety of languages, come from many different places, engage in various extracurricular activities, and embrace countless new experiences. What they all have in common is their desire to learn.

Access to a wide variety of art supplies like crayons, colored pencils, and markers—especially those that reflect diverse skin tones and cultural experiences—can be a powerful catalyst for creativity in elementary students.

When children have the tools to represent themselves and their communities accurately, they feel seen, valued, and inspired to express their thoughts and stories through art. Whether they're drawing self-portraits, illustrating family traditions, or bringing imaginative worlds to life, the right supplies help bridge the gap between a child’s inner vision and the page in front of them.

This project includes markers, crayons, colors pencils and pens that will be used by my students throughout the school year on various projects. These tools will open the door to more inclusive storytelling and encourage them to take creative risks. Having access to a variety of art materials will help my students feel confident in expressing their uniqueness and it will enhance learning across all subjects.
