This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are very diverse individuals. They are currently learning about the world around them. I currently serve 10 male students between the ages of 3-5. It has been a blessing and my pleasure to teach my students new skills and help them to reach their goals outlined in their IEPs.
My students are fun, loving, and unique.
They enjoy using their hands, which fosters gross motor and fine motor skills. Because we don't take field trips, I enjoy bringing the outside world into my classroom. My students have varying backgrounds, so I teach my to accept differences.
My Project
Students need art to express themselves. When given an art project to complete, students tend to imitate what they see. When given the opportunity to be themselves, they can better understand the world by creating something unique in it.
The art center is only one of the few places inside of a special needs classroom that students get to be themselves.
Through art they are able to select colors that describe their moods. The most rewarding part about the art center is when the students are excited about the work they have produced. My students have taught me that ART IS ABOUT THE PROCESS AND NOT THE PRODUCT. Students will use paint to craft objects such as shells, and rocks. Students will engage in craft activities three times a week.
