Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is made up of 20 highly-motivated first graders. My students are always ready to learn each and every day despite any circumstances occurring at home. Being in an inner city district with nearly 60 schools and over 26,000 students, these resources aren’t always readily available. Our district provides students with free breakfast and lunch.
Our students deserve to come to school every day with the available resources needed to help them succeed and learn in the best way possible.
My Project
First grade students crave creativity and hands on activities. Basic everyday materials such as crayons and markers are used very frequently in a first grade classroom and most of these students come to school without any materials.
Providing these materials for my students will allow them to do more hands on activities that they can enjoy every day.
I strive to create a classroom environment where students feel and safe and enjoy coming to school every day. Having letter magnets and letter stamps will allow students to practice their word building skills using materials other than a paper and pencil. Students are more engaged and eager to learn when they are given the opportunity to learn in different ways.
Class read aloud's are a great way for students to foster a love for reading. In addition, the flashlights would be used as a fun and engaging flashlight Friday activity for students to read in the dark!
