This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an amazing group of six year old students! They come to school each day with a smile on their faces ready to learn and are so eager when given new opportunities. The majority of my students are English language learners and approximately 94% receive free or reduced-priced lunch. I teach first grade in an inner city, low income area. It is such a challenge teaching in a low socioeconomic school because of the lack of resources we are provided with. I often have to buy materials with my own money and it tends to be very costly.

My Project

I clearly remember that in third grade we would do art once a month at the end of the day. I counted the days until the end of the month with such joy. I don't want my students to wait an entire month to do art or to be an isolated part of our class day. I want art to be integrated daily.

Art enhances self expression and creativity as it fosters the development of student's academic success.

The requests materials will make a difference in my students learning as it will provide them with art materials that they can use daily. Markers, paint, construction paper, and glue are essential supplies for creating masterpieces. For math, students can use color paper and stickies to create posters showing their knowledge of base ten blocks. For science, students can use the mechanical pencils to do an informative report on ocean animals and then create a diorama. For writing, they can use the sentence centers and make illustration with glitter paint and chart paper.

All of the materials can be organized in the storage cart and baskets and will be easily accessible and ready to use daily. Students work can be displayed using the art frames and the lamination pouches can be used to make the creations last longer. When students are having fun doing art projects, it's is providing them with opportunitites to express themselves at the same time that they are heightening their learning experiences and academic growth.
