This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My second grade classroom is filled with classroom books, lively students, and an interactive SmartBoard. My goal is to have 100% of my students on grade level for reading and math. It's a difficult task, but I am willing to provide support, guidance, and teachable moments whenever possible.

My school is in a low socioeconomic area with many students eager to learn and teachers who are dedicated.

We see many students go through many hardships in their home lives all before they enter third grade. Many come from families with parents in jail and their grandparents are raising them. The teachers are here because we love teaching and we want to offer guidance, education, and a future for these young, vibrant students.

My Project

Our classroom is looking for fun ways to reinforce math and writing skills. I did some research and found out that learning centers can be an effective way to reinforce math and writing skills. I plan to use these as learning centers where we are in groups of five and rotate every 15 minutes. The students really enjoy movement and variety, which these centers both fit the criteria.

I would love to have a variety of materials for my students to practice their math skills so they can become proficient or what I call "Math Wizards"!

The math games have time, money, measuring, place value, addition and subtraction which are the skills that are covered in our curriculum. Reinforcement and practice are the best ways to master these skills.

The writing games have parts of speech and ways to help stretch their sentences. These skills seem to be lacking in their writing and I am running out of creative ways to reinforce their writing. I am looking forward to using these games in my classroom and based on the positive reviews I think it will be a great asset to my classroom. All of these skills will be helpful throughout their life.
