Our artists are amazing, hard-working, diligent and creative souls. The art classroom is a safe space for all of our art students ranging in abilities from beginner to advanced and A.P. Here, our artists de-stress from the academic rigors of their core classes, while exploring the various two dimensional media available to them. Our students love to explore drawing, painting and printmaking through various styles and techniques.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, we will be teaching art remotely as well as in a hybrid setting, requiring each student to have access to their own drawing materials.
To ensure the safety of teachers and classmates, shared items such as colored pencils, paints and pencils will need to be assembled into personal "art kits" for students to work from both during learning-at-home, as well as their time in the classroom. This accessibility and equity to materials comes at a cost increase, when in years past we were able to rely on shared supplies (class sets).
Additionally, we are facing budget cuts from the federal and state government, as well as the tightened pocket strings of families who may be facing their own financial struggles due to Covid-19.
My Project
Help our artists learn the Elements of Art and Principles of Design with accessible materials that can be used both at home and in the classroom. Charcoal and colored pencils can be used on a variety of surfaces, paper, newspaper, cardboard, the back of cereal boxes, etc. Providing students with these simple materials will open many avenues of teaching lessons in: line, value, shape, form, emphasis, pattern, color theory, and an array of design fundamentals.
With these simple materials, students will gain a visual voice through lessons of self-portraiture, investigation, observation, social justice and imagination.
Help us make this a successful year! Especially amidst a trying time- creating art is a safe, constant and pleasing space/process for students. I hope you can help us bring that to our kids this year.
