Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever written a story that you were so proud of that you wanted to share it with the whole world? My students are discovering the joys of writing for the first time in their lives!
I am a second grade teacher in a very high-needs school.
Our budget has been cut again and again and we don't have basic supplies, much less funds for centers such as these ones. My kids are all second language learners and they have struggled in all academic areas.
My Project
When my kids entered my room they didn't realize that there was a purpose for writing. They saw it as something scary and intimidating. They cringed at the idea of writing a story, or a research report. They now know that they can communicate their unique thoughts and ideas with the world through their writing! I have found some incredible writing centers that would be a huge help in my room. They contain dozens of projects and activities that will give my students more opportunities to apply their writing skills. I am requesting a "Responding to Literature Activity Center" where the students will get to read and write about stories that they read. A "Writing Activity Pocket" that will give my students creative prompts for writing and includes great vocabulary to include in their writing. I am also requesting some paper for the students to use with the centers and other writing projects.
You can make all the difference in the lives of these students.
They have found their love for writing and I do not want them to lose it! I want to make sure that they are ready for the future world, not just in third grade but in all future grade levels.
