My Project

As a music teacher for 6th to 8th graders, my goal is to create a dynamic and engaging space where students can freely collaborate, express themselves, and feel inspired. Currently, my classroom setup includes standard chairs and a few desks, with limited options for alternative seating. While I have introduced benches, an ottoman, and some cushions, I would like to expand these resources to better meet students’ needs and preferences. By fostering a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere, I hope to encourage students to engage more fully in group activities and creative exercises.

To create a space where students feel excited to create together, I am proposing to purchase additional cushions, as well as lava lamps and a disco ball.

These items will transform our music room into a unique and welcoming environment, making it more than just a traditional classroom. By adding these elements, students will feel a sense of ownership and pride in their space, which can foster a more relaxed and collaborative atmosphere. The goal is to make the classroom a place where students are comfortable and eager to participate in group activities and creative exercises, ultimately enriching their learning experience.

Alongside these changes, I am requesting funds for printmaking supplies to integrate art into my music lessons. Printmaking offers students a hands-on way to explore musical concepts, such as creating designs inspired by songs, album covers, or posters related to the music we study. This cross-disciplinary approach not only enriches their understanding of music but also gives them an opportunity to express their ideas through visual art.

This grant will help transform my classroom into a vibrant, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment where students can thrive both as musicians and artists.
