Students on Hawaii Island are not provided a musical education in the elementary grades. Establishing an understanding of rhythm is important in performing, creating, and reading music. These skills will enable students to continue to higher levels of playing music. The instruments will provide students the opportunity to practice rhythm and create beats in a fun and engaging way. Musical skills and confidence are developed through repetition and practice. Students were not able to play music with each other during virtual classes last year. They were only on campus for the fourth quarter. The smaller handheld instruments will be used for classroom activities and learning while the cajon will enhance their performances with more elaborate rhythms. There are no desks in the classroom so the dry-erase clipboards will provide them a hard surface to write on as well as engage in different activities using the white board.
