it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the newest students to the school. This is the beginning of their official school career, and some have not attended preschool. Their backgrounds are varied. To them, everything is new and exciting.
They start and finish each day with the same amount of energy and enthusiasm.
The biggest challenge is trying to keep up with them! That is also the greatest joy. Seeing things through their eyes is like seeing it for the first time! Each day is an adventure!
My Project
As all other schools did, we closed unexpectedly in March. Not getting to say goodbye in person was one of the hardest adjustments. Realizing that the next time we would see each other in person, there could be no more hugs and this was also difficult. We had become a family in our months together.
Hope is a powerful motivator!
My greatest hope is that I will be back in my classroom with my children for the 2020-2021 school year. I do know that if I am, things will have to be different to be safe. I am trying to plan for when we are back in person teaching, to help provide the safest environment for all of us, without sacrificing the ability to move. If we are going to be socially distant, we cannot use the beautiful carpet that is in the room. These carpet squares can be placed anywhere, far enough apart to create distance and allow the children to be able to move and not stay in one place all day.
